Boškarin
The Boškarin or Istrian ox was threatened by extinction. It is one of the largest-sized cattle breeds in the world. It's a Podolian breed, related to the Italian Maremmana primitiva and Romagnola. From a herd of around 60,000 in the 1960s, their numbers had collapsed to slightly more than 100 animals in 1994. Thanks to regional initiatives the number of animals has now risen to more than thousand again. The breed has been introduce as part of a new Tauros breedinggroup in the Velebit mountains in Croatia.
